Head instructor/owner  - Shihan Angela Fice 

Shihan Fice has been studying in the martial arts for over 25 years. Shihan Fice has a 4th Dan in Shaolin-Do Kempo Karate, 4th Dan in  E & T Martial Arts, 3rd Dan in Kempo Ju-Jitsu,  3rd Dan with the I.B.T.F. and a 1st Dan in Ladies Cardio Self Defense.

Shihan Fice is also the founder and head instructor of Sho Do Ryu Karate. Shihan Fice is currently studying in the art of Kobudo, Self Defense Sign Language and competes across Canada and the United States. Shihan Fice is currently continuing her studies under the direction and guidance of Sensei Victor Arnold, Prof Ed McLachlan and Renshi Frank Verbakel.

Shihan Fice is the mother of four children giving her the unique ability to develop a special relationship with the younger students. As the mother of a special needs child, she has an incredible understanding of individual needs, expectations and potential limitations.

Shihan Fice provides instruction based on personal needs. She believes that physical challenges should not preclude someone from the opportunity to better themselves through the study of martial arts.

Shihan Fice has acquired her American Sign Language certificate and worked for Grandview Children's Centre as one of the Martial Arts Directors and her Sho Do Ryu program is currently taught at some of the Grandview Children's Centre programs. She prides herself on her ability and willingness to teach the martial arts to all those who are willing and capable of learning some form of martial arts.

Shihan Fice has been inducted into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame - International Instructor of the Year 2005 and Canadian Women's Competitor of the Year 2005. Shihan Fice was awarded  Martial Arts Woman of the Year 2007 by the World Karate Union Hall of Fame in July of 2007. Shihan Fice was awarded an International Merit Award from the Global Martial Arts Hall of Fame in August 2007. Shihan Fice was Inducted into the Global Martial Arts Hall of Fame August 2008.

Shihan Fice represented Team Canada in the Dominican Republic in January 2006. She won a silver and two bronze medals. Shihan Fice represented Team Canada in January 2007 in Florida. She won two gold medals and the other members of her club won two silver medals. Shihan Fice and Silent Tiger Martial Arts were recently awarded the 2007 Founders Award by the WFMA.

Shihan Fice was  ranked top in her division for sparring, weapons and forms in the World Fraternity of Martial Arts for 2006.

Shihan Fice is currently a board member for the Global Martial Arts Hall of Fame. www.gmahof.org.

Shihan Fice was recently appointed to a coaching position with the WCOAA to help represent Team Canada in the Goodwill Games.  www.wcoaa.org


 

 

Sensei Chris Kindratiuk

Sensei Chris has been training in martial arts for over 9 years. He has achieved a 1st degree black belt in Shaolin Do Kempo karate in January 2006. He has also trained in the arts of Kosho Ryu Kempo.

Sensei Chris has a great positive attitude towards teaching and helping others learn. Sensei Chris believes in having a fun time while learning self-defense and tries to make it a great time every time a student comes to class. Sensei Chris believes everybody should get equal treatment and no one should be left out. 

Sensei Chris was recently nominated to receive an International Merit Award from Global Martial Arts, however, Sensei Chris was employed with a company that takes him across Canada at 6 week intervals and could not attend the ceremony.

Sensei Chris was recently recruited at the Arnold Classic Festival 2008 to help provide security detail for Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Sensei Jacki Green

Sensei Jacki has been studying karate for 20 years.  She has her 2nd Dan in the style of Shorin-Ryu Karate. 

Sensei Jacki has been involved with Silent Tiger since the beginning.  She comes in to teach Bo classes and for special seminars and tests.

Sensei Jacki and Sensei Fice have worked together to create a program called Sho Do Ryu which is based on both styles of Shaolin-Do-Kempo Karate and Shorin Ryu Karate, modified to reach the needs of those who have intellectual and physical exceptionalities.  Currently Sensei Jacki teaches Sho Do Ryu Karate through Grandview Children’s Centre in Courtice and is currently in the works of starting another practice in Peterborough. With her training and experience as a Deafblind Intervenor, Sensei Jacki enjoys having the opportunity to bring both skills together through Sho Do Ryu Karate. 

Sensei Jacki was recently married and we hope to see her back doing weapon seminars soon.

Sensei John Skinner

Sensei John has been studying Kempo Do Karate for the past 6 years and received his 1st Dan in March of 2006 under the instruction of Shihan Fice in Shaolin Do Kempo Karate.

Sensei John has 2 sons that have also studied under Sensei Fice. His 12 year old son Noah will be testing for his Junior Black Belt in very soon.

Sensei John works fulltime for Mazda Canada at their Corporate Head Office as the Facilities Coordinator.

Sensei John’s favourite pastimes and hobbies (apart from studying the Martial Arts) include: flying single engine aircraft, target shooting, and hang gliding. Skydiving is on his summer 2007 list of things to do. Sensei John is also taking American Sign Language classes as he and his wife have been named guardians of a special needs child.

Sensei Craig Zoet

Sensei Craig has been training in the martial arts for over 8 years. He has obtained his first degree black belt in Shaolin Do Kempo in March 2006.

Sensei Craig is also training in Kobudo (weapons training) and competes in Ontario and the United States. Sensei Craig recently won the Canadian Championship in the WFMA for forms and sparring in his respective divisions. He won two silver medals in the Dominican Republic and Florida when he represented Team Canada for the WFMA.. 

Sensei Craig earned a Sho Dan with E & T Martial Arts in November 2008.

Sensei Rachel Fice

Sensei Rachel has been training in the martial arts for 9 years.   She has obtained her Junior Black Belt in Shaolin Do Kempo in 2006. Sensei Rachel acquired her Sho Dan in Shaolin Do Kempo in November 2008 and is also a certified Sho Dan with E & T Martial Arts acquired in November of 2008.

Sensei Rachel is also training in Kobudo (Weapons training) and competes across Ontario and in the United States. Sensei Rachel is ranked first in her division in kata (forms)  and sparring (fighting) and is ranked within the top three in the her weapons division in the World Fraternity of Martial Arts in 2006. Sensei Rachel secured the Championship in her division for Sparring and Weapons in 2007 and ranked first in forms with the World Fraternity of Martial Arts.

Sensei Rachel has  earned her Brown Belt in Kobudo and is currently working towards her Black Belt in Kobudo.

Sensei Rachel is a member of our demonstration team.

Sensei Rachel recently received a Junior Merit Award from Global Martial Arts Hall of Fame for her outstanding accomplishments in the martial arts.

Sensei Steve Rees

Sensei Steve began studying Kempo Do Karate 5 years ago after seeing how much fun his kids were having at it, and received his 1st Dan in November 2007 under the instruction of Shihan Fice.

Sensei Steve has two children also studying Kempo Do Karate at Silent Tiger Martial Arts.   14-year-old Emily will shortly be testing for her black belt, and 11-year-old Evan will shortly be testing for his Junior Black Belt.

Sensei Steve works for IBM in software development, and in his spare time, enjoys practicing and teaching karate, as well as photography, travelling, juggling and watching movies.

Sensei Steve earned a Sho Dan with E & T Martial Arts in November 2008.

Sensei Ed Rozema

Sensei Ed has been studying Shaolin Kempo Do Karate for around 5 years and received his 1st Dan in November of 2007 under the instruction of Shihan Fice.

Sensei Ed is a 23 year employee of General Motors and is married with 2 children, one of which, his daughter Rachel, has also been studying Kempo Do Karate for a few years now. Despite working the swing shift in GM, Sensei Ed still manages to enjoy teaching and training in numerous classes every week, and believes that training should be an enjoyable experience for everyone in class.  

Sensei Ed believes that everyone in this day and age should possess some type of self defense training, and that age and physical limitations should not discourage anyone from learning to protect themselves or their families. Sensei Ed also believes that “Exercise should be more enjoyable and more interesting than just running on a treadmill.”   

Sensei Ed earned a Sho Dan with E & T Martial Arts in November 2008.

Sensei Emily Rees

Sensei Emily has been training in Kempo karate for seven years. She achieved her First Dan in Shaolin-Do Kempo Karate in November, 2008.  Sensei Emily has competed and won awards for sparring and forms.  She believes that her karate training helps her set and achieve goals in other aspects of her life.  She has won numerous academic awards and is an Honour Roll student at Bowmanville High School in French Immersion. She has also been taking piano lessons for eight years and recently started singing lessons. In addition to the sport of karate, Emily swims, skis, and trains in figure skating. Sensei Emily thanks her parents for their support, and Shihan Angela Fice for the opportunity to learn from her.

Sensei Mitchel Morris

Sensei Mitchel has been training in Shaolin Do Kempo for 6 years and has obtained his f1st Dan Black Belt in November 2006.

Sensei Mitchel will begin his studies in the art of Kobudo within the next few months and has had minimal training in grappling at a previous school.

Sensei Mitchel is in high school and hoping that with hard work and determination he will become a famous actor. He is currently trying to decide which University he will attend when he graduates.

Sensei Ryan Fice

Sensei Ryan has been in training in Kempo karate for over 6 years. He achieved his Junior Black Belt in Shaolin-Do Kempo in November 2008. Sensei Ryan is an active member of the demonstration team and competes on a provincial and international level. Sensei Ryan won student of the year at Silent Tiger Martial Arts in 2005. He was ranked first competitor in his division for  Forms and Sparring and second competitor in Weapons for the World Fraternity of Martial Arts in 2006. In 2007, Sensei Ryan secured the Championship in his division for Weapons and Sparring and ranked first in Forms for the World Fraternity of Martial Arts.

More recently, Sensei Ryan secured gold medals in all three divisions (Weapons, Forms, Sparring) at the Gauthier's Spring Fling Classic.

Sensei Ryan is an ambitious and dedicated student who is constantly exploring many forms of martial arts and hopes one day to pursue a career in the same field.

Sensei Evan Rees

Sensei Evan has been training in Kempo karate for seven years. He achieved his Junior Black Belt in Shaolin-Do Kempo Karate in November, 2008.  Sensei Evan has competed and won awards for forms and weapons.  Evan is a top student in French Immersion at Ontario Street Public School. He received the school board’s Student of Character Award for his school this year.  Sensei Evan credits his karate training for helping him model good character.  In addition to the sport of karate, Evan swims, skis and plays basketball with the Durham Basketball Association house league and on his school team. He also plays guitar. Sensei Evan thanks his parents for their support and Shihan Angela Fice for the opportunity to learn from her.

Sho Do Ryu Program - Sensei Lynda

Sensei Lynda began her martial arts training in 1994 in the style of Tae Kwon Do. She attained the level of 4th Kyu blue belt before taking a break to start her family.  She is the mother of two sons.  She resumed her training in the art of Shaolin-Do-Kempo Karate Program at Silent Tiger Martial Arts and is striving to achieve her black belt in that program. She also trains in the Kobudo (Weapons) Program. She secured the Championship in Forms and Sparring and was ranked first in Weapons in the World Fraternity of Martial Arts in 2006 for her division.

Sensei Lynda feels every child benefits from the skills obtained in the martial arts in order to become a well-rounded, confident, and respectful person.  It is for this reason that when asked to train as an instructor in the Sho Do Ryu program for special needs individuals, she was extremely enthusiastic.  She achieved her Black Belt in Sho Do Ryu in December of 2006.

Sho Do Ryu Program - Sensei Nolan

Sensei Nolan began his martial arts training in Toronto and due to relocation has joined us at Silent Tiger Martial Arts. He is an active student and is currently working toward his Black belt in the Shaolin Do Kempo program. Sensei Nolan is an active member in the community, promoting and facilitating fundraising endeavors for Mt. Sinai Hospital. He strives to help those in need both in his personal and professional life.

Sensei Nolan received his Black Belt in the Sho Do Ryu program in May of 2009.

Sensei Nolan currently competes across Ontario in the Kempo program.

Sensei Nolan competed with Team Canada in baseball in 2 Pan American games and 1 North American game helping his team win 3 gold medals.

Sensei Nolan is a Paramedic/Rehabilitation Specialist, and in his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and young son.

Sho Do Ryu Program -  Sensei Steve Akil

Sensei Steve began his martial arts training with Silent Tiger Martial Arts in 2006. He is an active student and is currently working toward his Black belt in the Shaolin Do Kempo program. Sensei Steve received his black belt in Sho Do Ryu programi n June of 2009. Sensei Steve is a loving husband and father of 3 boys, which 2 of them are currently training in the Tiny Tiger program. If you were to ask Sensei Steve what he likes best about himself, he would say he he is a  "kid at heart". Sensei Steve  secured the Championship in Sparring, first in Forms  and was ranked third in Weapons in the World Fraternity of Martial Arts in 2007 for his division.

Sensei Steve is an Information Technology manager for IDEAL INDUSTRIES (CANADA), CORP. and in his spare time, enjoys karate training as well as spending time with his family, either going on day trips or staying home watching movies. He is also an avid outdoors man and enjoys his camping trips in any season, whether its rain, snow or shine.

Sensei Steve is a very motivated student and instructor who enjoys his training and loves sharing his knowledge with the students to help them gain more confidents and motivation during their training. It gives great joy to Sensei Steve to see his peers and students succeed, not only in the Karate program but outside as well.

Sho Do Ryu Program - Prof. Ed McLachlan

Professor Ed McLachlan is the founder of Dora Ryu Jiu Jitsu. He holds a 7th dan in Kitsune Ryu Jiu Jitsu, a 6th Dan in Canadian Jiu Jitsu and a 4th Dan with the American Karate Association.

Professor McLachlan began training in the martial arts at the age of 10 and has been training and teaching for 50 plus years, beginning in Scotland where he was born and then came to Canada where he continues his passion. He is the owner and head instructor of E & T Martial Arts and Founder of Dora-Ryu Jiu-Jitsu (Tiger Jiu Jitsu).

Professor Ed McLachlan has a passion for working with special needs individuals and he himself is hearing impaired.

We are proud to have Professor Ed McLachlan as a mentor in our Sho Do Ryu program and are pleased to work with him and the Global Martial Arts Association family.
